for your pondering pleasure

journal prompt from AP English last week...it's a sign and goes with my previous post...this prompt came the day after i blogged about my secret life...weird.

We all create personalities for ourselves. Kurt Vonnegut wrote, 'We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful what we pretend to be.' Do you agree? Which is more 'real': the side we show to others, or the side of us no one sees?

sorry i have been away...i am loving this warm weather. i love spring!
Happy Wednesday!

I know I'm not supposed to get caught up in the quote, but I can't help but to address it.
I think both sides are interconnected with one another. One side is the side that we display when we're in public, and the other one is what we take comfort in when we're alone. It's not two different personalities - simply the same personality in two different social settings.

And for Vonnegut's quote of "we are what we pretend to be..." isn't he saying that we should be careful of what we pretend to be because we ARE (or will turn into) what we pretend to be? In other words, isn't he saying that we should be careful of the personality/character that we put out because we ARE that personality/character? I think his argument is that each person is just one character, and to be wary of how you are viewed in public, because that may be who you really are.
