spring break 09

I went out to eat with my two best girls from school last weekend. they are truly great friends.
I finished up a couple of hippos and sent them off today. I love sending packages...especially surprise ones. They make me happy.

Yes, it is my spring break and it is getting away from me...this stinky weather is slowing me down and my to do lists are going unchecked.

i have lots of AP chemistry to be working on, but haven't even looked at it yet. I feel like shopping even though it is really unnecessary.

I found this artist today whose work makes me really happy. Everything is sooo cute and I want it all! Check out her etsy shop!
So yeah, it's spring break and I'm rambling.

the pros and cons

I have realized my fetish with Molsekine journals. I found new mini ones at barnes and noble this weekend and had to get them! I seriously have a problem with notebooks. One of these lovelies is bound to be a pros/cons notebook for my college visits. I went on another unofficial this weekend and certainly have some things to think about and straighten out before making my choice. I realize my college experience may hold my future best friends, a husband, a life changing professor, and opportunities that will undoubtedly impact the rest of my life. So yes...a pros/cons journal just because I certainly have enough Moleskines to choose from!

Elvis Lives

So this is some exciting news! I opened up my mailbox on Friday to find my complimentary copy of the April/May Quilting Arts Magazine in which I was published...again! My Elvis rock and roll challenge quilt made it into the latest issue! The quilt is 8.5x11in was inspired by my visit to Graceland last summer. I am very excited about it!

state of the union address regarding my life

so right now....today...this week...i feel good...really good. life is good and my friends are even better. i am seriously considering hosting a fried rice fiesta fling on Friday to kick off spring break 09 and want to plan a series of other parties for the rest of my break. black and white cookie party, Easter egg coloring party, ACT studying party minus the studying part. does that count? who cares? it's a party! let's see...i have yet to do anything crafty, but i have thought about being crafty. stirring up some ideas. i need some new "stuff".

i have also decided that prom is synonymous with stress and drama. my goodness! and they say high school never ends...well that's just great! (sarcasm right there)

i hope everyone has a wonderful rest of the week. i will be back with more interesting things on my agenda soon...i hope. at this rate there's bound to be something worthy of a blog post.

happy spring!!!! i have left my jacket at home this whole week and it's been verra vair nice!

loving this song and blasting it while shouting the words in an angry teen angst voice in my car then pulling a ventriloquist move when there is a car next to me so they can't see me singing.

oh high school

so one of my good guy friends wanted to ask this girl to prom so i helped him. we painted a kid's puzzle...he did all the writing. impressive, i know. then we undid it and threw it in an envelope and ditched it on her porch...the following movie is actually kinda funny i think and documents our adventure which was pretty epic on so many levels.

Prom? from kayla fujimoto on Vimeo.

our epic adventure to ask the girl...my voice sounds really high. it was lots of fun and she said yes an hour later once she figured out the puzzle.

for your pondering pleasure

journal prompt from AP English last week...it's a sign and goes with my previous post...this prompt came the day after i blogged about my secret life...weird.

We all create personalities for ourselves. Kurt Vonnegut wrote, 'We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful what we pretend to be.' Do you agree? Which is more 'real': the side we show to others, or the side of us no one sees?

sorry i have been away...i am loving this warm weather. i love spring!
Happy Wednesday!

my secret life

a page for miss kara's life story class. when i lived in japan i loved eating onigiri...a rice ball wrapped in seaweed.

i feel like i live a double life with my art. there is me...the one who does nothing but play tennis everyday. the one who has been committed to her sport almost all her life...the tennis girl. that's me at my high school. i am also that funny girl who has a lot of guy friends at school because there is less drama. i am the smart, tennis girl who is in all honors/AP classes. i only have two really good girlfriends at school. the rest of my girlfriends are at tennis who i see all the time at practice and tournaments.

then there is the second me. the creative/crafty girl. the girl who quilts and takes pictures...the one with a blog who rambles about things almost completely separate from the other her. the one with an online shop and a bunch of online friends whom she has never "met" before. she also reads a bunch of other blogs about people she doesn't know, but thinks she does.

i have realized that i live a double life. the more i think about it though...i'm not me without both parts. my art and crafty endeavors help me relax and give me energy to play tennis and train all the time. up front i keep it all separate, but really my lives coexist. some just are not aware of my other half. no one at school or tennis knows about my blog or art. i don't want that...is that bad?

yesterday i spent the day with one of my friends from school. we went to see "he's just not that into you". WE LOVED IT!!!!! it was absofruitly amazzzzzzzing!!! then we came home and ate some sushi and played cards before we went out to see "confessions of a shopaholic". it was vair vair vair cute...but we made the executive decision that "he's just not that into is the best and we would most definitely buy it. it was a chick flick day.

when she was over at my house i realized how much about my second life she didn't know about. when she saw my room, it pretty much gave it all away. random paintings on the shelves, quiltlets and quilts strewn about, half finished stuffed hippos on the window seat, my journal and anthro catalogs on the floor, my life story box, the typewriter on my desk, and the picture wall and old cameras. wow. she didn't know i had a blog, had been published twice, journalled on a daily basis, or had a world of online friends. she knew i was crafty, but not to that extent. i've decided she and my other really good friend can know about it, but they are sworn to secrecy. i just feel the need to keep it all separate even though both parts are who i am.
ps. sorry for the extremely long post. if you've made it here to the end leave me a comment with your thoughts and i'll will pick someone to win a little something. comments will close on wednesday.

march...

march?!?!?! already?!?!
this month's anthro catalog is absolutely delicious. the pictures are great and i want at least ten of the dresses in it! i also want one of those pretty white bicycles to ride around town in a pretty anthro dress with those pretty sweet sunglasses. sighhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
this month i want to read a book. go to the movies. take a walk. take film pictures outside. take a photo walk. help a friend. send some mail. clean my room. listen to happy music. hang out with my friends. start journaling more. sit in a coffee shop for at least an hour and take in the sights. go sigh in front of all the dresses at anthro. and make some etsy updates.
happy march!

mega post?

Hello blog world! I have had a GREAT weekend! I went bowling with a bunch of friends on Friday night and it was a blast. I have also been pretty crafty too! I will be making some etsy updates soon so check back! I was also thinking that I would like to have a place like a coffee shop or a deli where I am a "regular". It goes like this...I walk in they say, "hello Kayla! would you like the usual?" and I would say, "hello Joe/Bob/etc. yes, the usual would be great." ahhh...sigh. that is one of my goals in life.

in other news, i am helping my mom teach a quiltlet class at the local quilt shop next month. we were busy making samples this weekend. she made the above one for me and i made this "perfect pair" one.

here is a page i made for kara's life story class! can you say fanny pack action?
i could not sleep this morning. i was up in bed at 6am and decided to start crafting. i cleaned my room a bit and listened to music...so refreshing. i also finished up my art journal for this girl's class that I took in AUGUST!

i'm kinda disappointed that you can't see all of the pretty glitter in the picture. i took kara's advice an added mod podge and glitter to make me happy!
